According to a recent poll conducted by mobile messaging company Textlocal, almost 65% of business owners consider SMS marketing to be more effective than e-mail marketing, when they are running their marketing campaigns. 67% of business owners named SMS Marketing as their preferred method of mobile marketing communication.
The same respondents were also unaware of the benefits of SMS marketing – over 85% were not aware of the high response rates that SMS Messages achieve. According to Ofcom, 97.5% of all SMS messages are read within 5 seconds of being received.
Textlocal MD Darren Daws believe there is still work to be done to educate businesses to communicate with their customers in this way. He said, “Our survey delved into the hearts and minds of 600 businesses across the UK and asked how they used, and what they thought about, mobile marketing and communications. Our research indicates that many businesses are aware of mobile messaging, but there are still some who are yet to tap into the full potential of how powerful it can be as a business driver.”
The research forms the basis of Textlocal’s whitepaper, The Great British Mobile Marketing Report, which can be downloaded for free here

Two Thirds of Businesses Prefer SMS according to TextLocal
Monday, August 20th, 2012iPhone 5 to allow Bluetooth Marketing?
Tuesday, August 7th, 2012Bluetooth marketing is not currently compatible with iPhones. However, this may be about to change….
Yesterday, it was reported by Cult of Mac, an international team of Apple experts, that one of the new features of the iPhone may be the ‘ability to share data via Bluetooth’.
Official news regarding the iPhone 5 is expected to be released on September 12th; when we should know for sure whether or not Bluetooth file transfer capability will be added.
If Bluetooth data transfer does end up being offered as part of the iPhone 5, this would be fantastic news for businesses that are interested in using Bluetooth Marketing; especially considering that (according to The Next Web) approximately 37.04 million iPhones were sold in the first quarter of 2012.
Originally, it is thought that Apple’s main reason for not giving iPhones Bluetooth file transfer capability was that iPhone users would be able to get music onto their phone without paying iTunes. However, it is now thought that Apple are keen to add the ability to transfer files by Bluetooth to the iPhone once more, in order to make it easier for Apple users to share information between their iPod, iPad and iPhone.
If you were previously interested in using Bluetooth marketing, but changed your mind because it was not compatible with iPhones, register here and we will keep you updated with the latest news as soon as it becomes available.

London Olympics 2012 McDonalds packaging feature QR-Codes
Friday, August 3rd, 2012If you have visited one of the four McDonald’s London Olympic Restaurants you will have noticed something new on the packaging, a QR-Code!
When this QR-Code is scanned it will direct you to the McDonalds mobile website page, here you will find all of the nutritional information of what is in the packaging.
From the mobile website you will be able to work out the total calories, protein and nutritional information for a single product or a meal that you are planning to purchase. When you are on the mobile site you can access a restaurant finder and this will detail where the nearest McDonalds Restaurant is to you and will detail about any special promotions.
McDonald’s don’t intend to limit the use of QR-Codes to just the London Olympics, it will spread through the rest of the United Kingdom and worldwide this year and throughout most of 2013.
While TextBlue are not connected to the McDonalds QR-Code, we can offer you access to our QR-Code marketing tool. This will allow you to make your own QR-Codes, as well as keeping track of how many people have scanned the barcode.
Scan the QR-code below (using your phone) to contact us for further information, or e-mail support@textblue.co.uk.
